In this podcast we discuss how social work helps when someone is experiencing a crisis. We look at crisis intervention theory and consider the practice implications of working alongside people during these moments of change.
That was a very enlightening and informative conversation. I think the use of language plays an important role in any day to day setting and scenario. Being a social worker does require social and emotional intelligence to aide in a crisis situation. I also heard the importance of agency and relinquishing the savior role because it can be easier to see clearly from the lighthouse, but what one perceives as simple or complicated can be complex. Lastly, Martyr syndrome impacts people’s home/relationships, and their mental/physical/emotional health. The role of a Social Worker can and will get perhaps blurred by compassion fatigue and vicarious relations, is it necessary for Social Workers to keep up a utopian facade?
